Responsibilities

Throughout this year, I promise to:

• Serve as your main career development resource on campus while teaching you to be independent and responsible
• Teach you how to navigate internship/job searches and professional development opportunities
• Assist you in defining, developing and following realistic career goals
• Inform you about campus visits from recruiters and any networking opportunities with industry professionals
• Identify your special interests and/or needs and refer you to appropriate resources
• Create an open, respectful, and supportive environment for all humans

In addition, here is what I expect from you:

• Seek advice, information, resources, and support - be proactive!
• Focus on your role as a student: hold yourself accountable for meeting internship, practicum, and job search deadlines – this is your career!
• Be responsible for your decisions, choices, and actions
• Choose part time jobs, experiential learning opportunities, and industry experiences intentionally in a way that will lead you to your chosen career path
• Use MyMadison, Canvas, and the Hart School website for planning and resources

Appointments

Take personal responsibility for commitments you make – including scheduled meetings. You can reschedule or cancel appointments in Acuity up to 12 hours in advance; closer than that, please email to let me know. You can see the full cancellation policy in your Acuity confirmation email.

University Closings or Delays

To check for winter weather delays or closings, visit www.jmu.edu or call the JMU Weather Line at 540-433-5300.  If the University is closed, advising appointments will need to be rescheduled. If there is a delay, early advising appointments will need to be rescheduled, and later appointments will be held as scheduled once the University opens.
