The Honors College believes students should have opportunities to apply their knowledge in a hands-on setting. This is reflected in a 3-credit Research & Experiential (not "experimental") requirement for all Honors College students. You may use one 3-credit or multiple 1- and 2-credit courses to fulfill this requirement, and we especially encourage you to look for opportunities within your major or minor. Some examples of appropriate opportunities include research, internships, teaching assistantships, creative endeavors, clinical practice, study abroad, etc.

The R&E requirement does not have to be an Honors course (but it may be). This requirement can be satisfied in one of the following ways:

You may take a course on this approved list (scroll down).
You may use a Course Directive Request form to ask that a course not on the above list be approved, provided it fits the following criteria:
- It is at least a 300-level course.
- At least half of the course is applied, hands-on work.
Any study abroad course. You must submit a Course Directive Request to receive Honors credit.
You may add an R&E component to a class using an Honors Option. The Honors Option project must include at least 15 hours of applied, hands-on work. A Course Directive Request is required, and you must include both the Honors Option proposal and the course syllabus with your request.
